POSITION PURPOSE
Are you a software developer that enjoys playing Magic: The Gathering or Dungeons & Dragons? Do you spend time day-dreaming about the high-volume applications behind your favorite games? What about working with C#, SQL Server, ASP.NET and WinForms? The CES Live Operations team supports customer-facing applications like Planeswalker Points, User Account systems, and Magic Tournament software. We’re looking for a developer to help put together our next big thing, while maintaining the existing apps we wrote that support our customers.

On the Live Operations team, we value high quality work, detail-oriented development, and due-diligence. No spaghetti code or “it works on my box” here! We believe that good code can be produced at all stages of a project, from inception to launch. We also like code reviews, playing Betrayal at House on the Hill, and finding root causes to bugs. Here are some other skills you should be familiar with:

- Proficient with C#, Visual Studio (2010+), and all the .NET frameworks and tools that come with.
- Proficient with T-SQL, SQL Server (2008+), and SQL Server Management Server. Terms like: instances, cross-database ownership chaining, clustered index, and searchable arguments should mean something to you.
- Experience creating, using, and debugging WCF services.
- Practice due diligence when consuming requirements, writing code, fixing bugs, and implementing tests.
- Work well with other developers, the development manager, project managers, producers, and build/system engineers.
- Be able to help design non-functional (and even functional) requirements for applications.
- Be able to perform the standard “best practices” for development: adequate commenting, experience with common design patterns, able to use different SDLC processes, etc.
- Be able to perform code and architectural reviews and provide constructive feedback.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite a plus!

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
The Software Developer will design, document, construct and unit test software solutions to support WotC development. The position will assist other developers is achieving excellence in software development practices and implementation. The software developer will lead small development teams on a project by project basis.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

- Develops functional specifications based on vision and scope provided by the Development Manager, both alone and in conjunction with other developers and Enterprise Architecture.
- Supports the software development team with developing robust, performant, and high-quality software solutions where transactions to a database are being employed, particularly in a highly-transactional live system.
- Implements functional specifications on targeted platform and languages.
- Writes logical code that is easily understandable with comments and documentation.
- Performs due diligence and applies detailed-oriented thinking when implementing specifications and fixing bugs.
- Adopts industry standard and team-specific coding practices, must follow internal SDLC procedures
- Provides reasonable estimates of time and materials required to complete vision and scope goals outlined by Development Manager.
- Mentors and guides junior-level team members to improve in quality and effectiveness.
- Performs code and architectural reviews.
- Designs and implements unit tests.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people
- Positive, can-do attitude a must
- Initiative and self-starting attitude a must

- Must be effective developing software solutions for multi-tier client/server architecture.

QUALIFICATIONS

- 5-7 years working with C# and .NET Framework
- 5-7 years object-oriented design experience
- 3+ years of experience with WCF
- 3-5 years of experience working with Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL
- Experience writing performant SQL, DB Design, tuning and optimization
- Experience interacting with SQL Databases and writing stored procedures
- Experience working with industry standard source control systems and defect tracking systems
- Experience working with industry standard IDEs
- Experience working with industry standard source control systems
- Experience working with industry standard defect tracking systems
- Commitment to industry standard code practices and literate programming style

PRIOR RELATED EXPERIENCE

- Usage of data modeling tools, Design Patterns, UML and OO design methodologies. Experience with web systems, applications, and components; web servers, application servers, databases, transactional systems, content management systems, operating systems
- Sound knowledge of software engineering, software engineering methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Kanban), and the impact of early decisions on later development stages of software projects
- Knowledge of Internet communication protocols
- International experience a plus
- Familiarity or programming experience in HTML 5 a plus
- Familiarity or programming experience with mobile technologies (iOS, Android) a plus
- Familiarity or programming experience with MVC design patterns a plus

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

- BS in Computer science or equivalent experience.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

- The travel requirements are not expected to exceed 5% of the time per year.

TIME EXPECTED TO REACH FULL PERFORMANCE IN POSITION

- Expect candidate to be able to contribute to the system within the first month and be fully productive in 6 months.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

- Office environment, able to work on computer or phone for long periods of time.
