The Software Developer will design, document, construct and unit test software solutions to support Magic: The Gathering Online. The position will work with other developers in achieving excellence in software development practices and implementation. The software developer will be a member of small development teams on a project by project basis. Assist the Development team in the creation and management of applications, as defined by the Development team’s associated Business team.

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities:

- Assists senior developers in the development of functional specifications based on vision and scope provided by Development and Project Managers.
- Designs and implements solutions for Magic Online’s project and program needs.
- Performs design work on new systems in the current-generation languages and platforms, exercising individual judgment to implement appropriate design patterns and practices.
- Performs relational modeling under the supervision of senior developers to implement new database design within the context of the overall database structure and requirements.
- Performs literate programming, using adequate commenting and documentation tools.
- Adopts industry standard and team-specific coding practices.
- Provides reasonable estimates of time and materials required to complete vision and scope goals outlined by Development and Project Managers.
- Codes, compiles, and debugs software by following functional and design specifications.
- Completes programming, debugging, and testing of systems and applications.

- Incredible coding skills. Your programming ability is way above average, as demonstrated by a continuous string of successful projects.
- Experience working with distributed teams.
- 5-7 years C++ development experience.
- 5-7 years object-oriented design experience.
- 1-3 years Perl development experience.
- 1-3 years Python experience.
- Experience with boost.
- Experience with finite state machines / regular expressions.
- Experience with artificial intelligence:
- Decision tree / minimax.
- Heuristic-driven decision shaping a plus.
- Experience with context-free grammars / parsing. (e.g. LL(1), LALR(1))
- Experience with CLIPS.
- Experience maintaining and developing cross-platform / portable code-bases across Windows and at least one Unix. (or Unix-like OS: Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, etc.)
- Natural language processing / context-sensitive parsing experience a plus.
- NLTK experience a very strong plus.
- C++11 familiarity a plus.
- 1-3 years C# development experience a plus.
- Familiarity / understanding of Magic: The Gathering Online a strong plus.

Prior Related Experience:

- Experience working on the server side of a client-server architecture highly desired.
- Experience working with massive online multiplayer games highly desired.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people

Education and Training:

- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.

Time Expected to Reach Full Performance Level in Position:

- 6 months

Physical Requirements:

- Office environment, able to work on computer or phone for long periods of time.
