Provides daily leadership and mentoring to the Build and Release Engineering group. The group being managed will be supporting both internal business applications and customer facing revenue generating systems. Oversees source repository, creates and supports daily build and deployment processes for multiple projects (live and under development). Ensures that build and deployment system automation and tools are flexible across multiple software products and operating systems. Works closely with Development, Operations and Quality Assurance to solve complex build system issues. This position has a specific focus on the use of tooling, automation and processes as related to Continuous Delivery and DevOps.


- Directly manages and supervises Build and Release Engineering Team
- Works with Architects, Software Development (internal/external), Operations, and QA teams (internal/external) to provide feedback on projects, to include: BVTs, Automated build and deployment systems, automated unit tests, source control
- Performs systems analysis, design, documentation, development, maintenance, and/or effort estimates for all Build and Release Engineering team deliverables, either through direct contribution or through the Build Management Team consisting of software developers that also have systems administration and testing skills
- Works in conjunction with other teams to promote and implement continuous delivery automation systems
- Provides input to Software Development Managers, QA Managers, Architects, Project Managers and Vendors on scheduling for Build and Release Engineering and/or projects across internal/external software development teams
- Provides guidance on project assignments related to Build and Release Engineering
- Develops software in support of build management processes as a direct contributor as necessary
- Manages all functional specifications for build and configuration management, based on vision and scope provided, both alone and in conjunction with others
- Documents use of, and trains others on the use of the build and deployment system tools
- Documents and maintains the build and deployment process for each product
- Adopts industry standard and team-specific coding practices
- Provides reasonable estimates of time and materials required to complete vision and scope goals as required
- Manages administration of all internal version control system(s)
- Manages, either directly or through team, software branch creation and code merging activities across software development teams
- Researches new technology and development tools to remain abreast of current technology

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people – Required
- Experience with complex source code repository techniques and solutions/schemas – Required
- Passion and ability to acquire and grow new talent for the Build and Release Engineering organization – Required
- Ability to mentor junior Build Engineers – Required
- Passion for new technologies and attention to detail – Required
- Experience with requirements analysis, software development, databases, hardware, quality assurance, and technology operations – Required
- Familiarity with contemporary software development tools and best practices – Preferred
- 2 years of area experience, some experience in a supervisory role (lead, manager, etc.) - Preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively across a spectrum of Business, Creative, and Technology personnel at all levels of the organization – Preferred
- Excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills – Highly Desired
- Willingness to roll up your sleeves in a team environment – Highly Desired
- Motivation and time management skills – Highly Desired
- 7 years minimum software engineering experience; Proven skills and qualifications as a senior build engineer – Highly Desired
- Flexibility to handle demands of a rapidly growing and changing workplace – Highly Desired
- Experience with Continuous Delivery systems, process and DevOps practices – Highly Desired

Prior Related Experience:

- Experience aligning retail and digital marketing, and analog and digital play experiences – Preferred
- Experience using both UNIX-style operating systems and Microsoft Windows – Required
- Experience writing and maintaining cross-platform build system tools using systems such as Make, NAnt, PowerShell, and Bash targeting Linux, and Windows – Required
- Experience in the use, administration and maintenance of source control systems – Required
- Experience using automated build tools and producing automated build environments – Required
- Experience with Perforce - Preferred
- Experience with Continuous Delivery and DevOps technologies and process, such as Jenkins and Puppet - Preferred

Time Expected to Reach Full Performance Level in Position:

- 6 months

Physical Requirements:

- Office environment, able to work on computer or phone for long periods of time.
